I bought my first commercial property before I bought my first home. I was 21, and I've been holding and managing it ever since.
My background is in finance. I completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin and worked as an accountant, and I read a property the way an investor would — what it actually earns you, how secure that income is, and what costs you can recover from the tenant — not just the rent on the listing. Most agents don't, and over the life of a building, that difference compounds.
I've also run my own franchise business in the CBD, so I know a lease from the tenant's side. And as a landlord myself, an owner's frustrations are never theory to me. I've lived them.
That's the perspective I bring. I've sat on every side of the table — buyer and seller, landlord and tenant, business owner and accountant — which lets me see a deal for what it is, and whether it will still hold up long after everyone has signed.
